Prof. Dr. Antonio Nieto is a Mining and Earth-Systems Engineer. He is Chief Technology Innovation Officer with Peñoles-Industries Grupo BAL. Before his current role he served as Professor & Chair in Minerals Resources and Reserves at The University of The Witwatersrand, Johannesburg; as Chief Technology Officer with the CRC-Mining, Australia; and as Associate Professor at Penn State University in the United States.
Dr. Nieto has a PhD in Earth Systems Engineering from Colorado School of Mines, a MS in Geostatistics from Ecole Des Mines de Paris (Paris Tech), a MS in Mining Engineering from Colorado School of Mines, and a BS in Mining Engineering from Guanajuato University.
His research focuses on mining technology innovation, and mineral resources to reserves optimization. He actively collaborates with the global mining industry working in underground and surface mining operations. He has served in different executive roles in the minerals industry, education, and research sector in the United States, Australia, Mexico, and South Africa.
